Solution Plasma Purification Technology

Motivation to do the purification:

Due to the rapid industry development and resource depletion, the importance of the recycling industry has become apparent. All the conventional methods in this field have their obvious flaws, leading to the low efficiency and high consumption situation now. Here, we try to explore an advanced solution plasma technology with high efficiency and low cost to replace the old methods.

How to do the purification by solution plasma:

By utilizing the dielectric breakdown effect, we can easily generate the plasma in the solution without vacuum system. The plasma etching will transfer the electrode material into the electrolyte solution either by chemical(ions) or physical(bulk) route. In our research, we on purpose choose the chemical route to achieve the purification by controlling the condition of the electrolyte like pH value, anion species and temperature. The solution plasma technology we explore here can directly turn the low purity bulk material into a high purity product.

The 2022 Huali Innovative Materials Competition organized by the Chinese Materials Research Society offered substantial rewards, and Professor Lai Chin-huang's team stood out among fierce competition. Their project, "Divergent Path to Copper – Innovative Low-Carbon Recycling and Purification Technology," earned them the Silver Award and a prize of 200,000 RMB. In recent years, Professor Lai's team has been dedicated to low-carbon sustainability and circular economy initiatives. Using plasma as an efficient leaching method, they purify low-purity copper-containing waste materials into high-purity microparticle products. These products can be applied in industries such as ultra-high-purity refining precursors, sintering of high-purity target materials, and antibacterial materials.
